Trauma-Informed Healing & Community Support Initiatives
Filmed across the lands now known as Australia, In the Circle of Life is a reverent bow to the resilience and enduring wisdom passed down through one of the world’s oldest continuous cultures. Aboriginal elders and cultural custodians share pathways for healing from colonial trauma and restoring mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
As part of SAND’s reciprocity commitment, we are directing $10,000–$15,000 to the communities and initiatives featured in the film. The initiatives below reflect community-identified priorities and needs.
Trauma-Informed Healing at We Al-li
We Al-li is an Indigenous-led organization supporting trauma-aware healing, cultural continuity, and reconnection to Country across Australia. Programs include face-to-face workshops, online courses, and resources that build personal resilience, community capacity, and cultural knowledge.
Reciprocity funds will be used to provide scholarships and expand We Al-li’s work within communities towards reclaiming healing through Indigenous practices and ways of knowing.
The Barracks: Healing Space for Men Experiencing Homelessness
Founded by Shirley Scott (Wiradjuri), who is featured in the film, The Barracks offers short-term accommodation and connection to health and community services for men experiencing homelessness in Bathurst. The organization focuses on cultivating safety, dignity, and long-term pathways to stable housing and wellbeing.
Reciprocity funds will be used to support The Barracks’ essential programs and services, as well as facility upgrades and maintenance to ensure a welcoming and secure space for residents.
