Reciprocity for If An Owl Calls Your Name

Indigenous Land Defense & Community-Led Healing

Set in present-day Canada, If An Owl Calls Your Name features Indigenous voices from the Esk’etemc, Gitxsan, and Wet’suwet’en territories on the enduring legacy of colonization, intergenerational trauma, and pathways of healing. The film highlights land defense and community-led healing and recovery as interconnected forms of cultural resistance and renewal.

As part of SAND’s reciprocity commitment, we are directing $10,000–$15,000 to the communities and initiatives featured in the film. The initiatives below reflect community-identified priorities and needs.

Coastal GasLink/TC Energy is constructing a 670-kilometer fracked gas pipeline through unceded Wet’suwet’en territory. Land defenders are rising up to protect their unceded territory and defend this violation of Wet’suwet’en, Canadian, and international law.

Reciprocity funds will be used for initiatives that sustain Wet’suwet’en land defenders, such as legal advocacy, land defense infrastructure, and documentation of rights violations. Learn more with their supporter toolkit.

The Letwilc Ren Semc Center supports healing and recovery within the Esketemc Nation, grounded in Indigenous teachings and community care. Through land-based practices, ceremony, and peer support, the Center helps individuals and families rebuild pathways toward wholeness.

From the Letwilc Ren Semc Team: “Our people have carried deep wounds but also deep wisdom. Recovery isn’t just about overcoming addiction; it’s about restoring the strength of our community, our families, and our spirit. Every contribution helps us continue the work of healing, guided by the land, the teachings, and the love of those who came before us.”
