How Your Contribution Supports Indigenous Communities
In The Spirit of Reciprocity
We thank the past, current, and future Indigenous stewards of this territory.
SAND is a nonprofit organization under section 501.c.3 of the US tax code. Its headquarters are on the unceded ancestral territories of Coastal Miwok and Southern Pomo Land in Sebastopol, CA.
We invite you to donate directly to Little Singer Community School, which provides Diné youth with an education grounded in their language, culture, and community. The school is currently facing significant risk due to education budget cuts. 100% of your donation goes directly to the school and will help protect this important educational space rooted in Diné values.
If you’d like to send a check or a bank transfer, please contact us for more details.
Supporting Diné Youth in the Navajo Reservation
From the wide horizons of Diné land, Little Singer shares stories of loss, resistance, and healing traditions from Navajo elders and community leaders. Many hands have protected and carried living language, k’é (kinship), and cultural practices across the dark waters of colonial violence, ensuring Diné culture continues to be passed down to the next generation.
As part of SAND’s reciprocity commitment, we are directing $10,000–$15,000 USD to support the ongoing work and immediate priorities of the Little Singer Community School and the Diné youth it serves.
Little Singer Community School
Located on the Little Colorado River Basin in the far southwestern region of the Navajo Reservation, Little Singer Community School was created as an alternative to the infamous boarding schools. Rooted in Diné values, the school provides Diné youth with vital cultural teachings from community elders through language, music, dance, art, and storytelling.
The school now faces significant risk due to current education budget cuts. Reciprocity funds will be directed to the Little Singer Community School during this critical time to ensure Diné youth continue to receive an education rooted in their cultural values and language.Â
